When’s the last time you pulled an “all-nighter”?
For us it was yesterday – and today. We are hosting Katya through Frontier Horizon’s short term hosting program. A group flew from Kyiv yesterday to New York. They were due in to Dulles at 2120, but actually arrived (by van) at about 0500. So, we left home yesterday about 1730 and arrived home at 0830 today. It was worth it though to get to see our future daughter! (picture at left was taken hours ago - Katya on left, Sophie on right)
Last week we mobilized our church prayer chain asking for intervention in the bureaucracy in Ukraine. As of today we actually know less about Katya’s status than we did (or thought we did) 6 months ago. We have a letter that say’s she’s not available for international adoption. That of course casts doubt on the reliability of our contact that called us in August 2008 and said she was available. The letter doesn’t say whether she’s registered at all or when / if she’ll ever be available.
We are relying on God’s sovereignty in these matters to work out the perfect timing. If you are inclined, please remember to pray for Katya and the 100,000 other orphans in Ukraine.

Hi way over there to Comrade Tim (what happened to your beard?) & his lovely (this is her mother writing) spouse. . . .thank you so much for this wonderful blog. I've been feeling down (unusual for me as you doubltless know) tonite because they have just abandoned a search in the Gulf of Mexico for three young men whose boat capsized on Sat. in high seas - one of the group was found hugging the motor of the capsized boat - I'm just having a hard time thinking about these poor young men & their families! Also Unc Donnie has to have bypass surgery tomorrow - possibly quadruple, altho they're not sure. We feel a little anxious cause he's not at the hospital where C was nor does he have Dr. Koch - went where his primary suggested. He has no symptoms, but a stress test revealed several blockages. Please remember him in your prayers - well keep you posted.
Tears came to my eyes when I read about Katya becoming your daughter at last. Now your family is as complete as any family can hope to b! We rejoice with you - please give our new granddaughter a special hug from us. The only negative is not being able to bring Tanya (who sounds like such a lovely young lady - give her a hug from us too!)over also. That orphanage is to be congratulated on these beautiful young girls - they certainly have been doing something right! I don't remember you mentioning Rita at all - does Katya have any more siblings? Can we still call her Katya or do you all prefer Mary K. as you had mentioned in the past Char?
The Kaub's are coming over from Okeechobee Thurs. at which time it's supposed to get warmer like it's SUPPOSED to be all the time here. I know it sounded like I shouldn't complain about how cold it seems here, but what you have no way of knowing it we do not have any heat except for acouple of minimally adequate space heaters & these concrete houses are like CAVES when it's cold.
We love seeing what you're living thru over there & it sounds like it's a really great experience for the most part. We're sooo happy & relieved about the court stuff going good altho I can't imagine why it wouldn't, but what do I know about why they do what they do over there?
Tim - your beardless face is a big improvement - you don't look quite so piratanical xcept for the eyes! Thank you for being such wonderful communicators - it's wonderful to share all this with you & also helps to alleviate a mother's anxiety about HER daughter wandering around in a strange, far-away country! Keep us posted. Love, Non
